Charlestown is located north of downtown Boston situated on the banks of Boston Harbor and the Mystic River. Home to the Bunker Hill Monument, the U.S.S. Constitution and historical Charlestown Navy Yard, Charlestown is Boston’s oldest community being founded in 1629. Charlestown was also the location from which Paul Revere began his famous "midnight ride" before the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Today Charlestown’s residential neighborhood is composed of brick and wood row houses, waterfront condominiums and apartments. Contemporary restaurants and shops thrive in Charlestown alongside the oldest tavern in Massachusetts, Warren Tavern; opened in 1780 and claimed to be one of Paul Revere’s favorite taverns.
